How can I make sure I don’t invalidate my skiing holiday insurance?

Although you are on a skiing holiday to have fun, you should be sure to keep safe. If the insurance company determines that you have acted with negligence or recklessness, it will deny any claims you make against the loss. If this happens, you will be left with expenses you have to pay out of your own pocket.

Here are some things you should remember to make sure that you have a safe skiing holiday and that you don't invalidate your skiing holiday insurance:

  • Read your policy and know what's being covered. Know the activities that are allowed under the policy and the ones which are not.
  • Do not drink and ski! The likelihood of your being in an accident is greatly increased when you are skiing while intoxicated. One of the first things that the ski insurance company will look into with regards to the claim would be whether your alcohol levels are acceptable.
  • While skiing, always keep to the piste. Of course, the excitement of doing a black run and going off-piste is quite something. It is indeed an unforgettable experience. But it is an experience that the insurance company will not cover.
  • Make sure you have a guide when this is indicated. There are some activities where the insurance company requires that you have a guide.
  • Be always mindful of your safety. Who would really want to get into the hospital, even if one is insured?
  • Take care of your skis. Ski equipment can be expensive to replace. If you lost your skis just because you forgot to secure them (i.e. you went inside a bar and left your skis outside), this will not be considered payable under your skiing holiday insurance.
