I bought a house and now the city sent me a bill to pay a loan on a sewer line. Is this a title insurance claim?

Yes, this may be covered under you title insurance policy. But, to be sure, please check your policy's terms and conditions, as there may be instances where these are excluded.

The title insurance will help clear out any unpaid loans or taxes owed to a third party, including the city where the property is located. Loans on sewer lines and other similar liens are usually not readily seen when a title search is done, since these may not be reflected in the public documents.

When the city sends you a bill asking that you pay a loan related to the house, you can file a claim with your title insurance company and attach the bill as part of your documentation. Be sure to keep the original documents and send copies to the insurance company.
